Struggling with pain and stiffness in your back or neck? At Boost Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, we offer several techniques to help resolve these symptoms, including using an intersegmental traction table.

This specialized table offers a wealth of benefits, from increased relaxation to acute pain relief. Also known as a roller table, it features three wheels inside the table that roll up and down the length of the table to massage your spine.

We use our intersegmental traction table to address several musculoskeletal conditions, including the following:

  • Pain or stiffness in the neck
  • Lower back pain
  • Pain from a herniated disc, arthritis, or similar conditions

Intersegmental traction offers many great benefits. One of the biggest is that many of our patients find the process relaxing–a bit like a gentle back massage. However, it has other benefits, too. It can help…

  • Reduce acute pain in the neck and back
  • Improve mobility in the neck and back
  • The gentle rolling action helps muscle relaxation and reduces spasms
  • Improved blood circulation contributes to overall spinal health
  • Improve your back’s overall functionality

The intersegmental traction table looks a bit like a padded examination table. You’ll lie on your back with one pillow underneath your head and one underneath your knees. Try to get as comfortable as you can!

One of our therapists will position the table’s roller beneath your neck and then start the session. The roller will slowly and gently run down the length of your spine, essentially providing you with a gentle spinal massage.

Most sessions last around 5-10 minutes. We often use the intersegmental traction table to end a physical therapy session because it can be so relaxing.
